Monday art class at the studio

We are having a lot of fun creating rich backgrounds using glazing techniques and adding textures to it. Students were introduced to transparent, opaque, iridescent pigment, interference and other specialty paints as well as the purpose of various gel mediums. 

The background is completed. Next step,  the design for the foreground. I cannot wait to see what the background is going to inspire them...

Working on new backgrounds

I started to work on new canvases and it feels good to be back painting! I am enjoying adding layers and layers of paint, some with transparent pigments and some with more opaque ones. The result is always very rich in tones and texture. Once finished, the paintings will for sale on my Etsy shop. These backgrounds needs few more layers before the final design is added.

In preparation of upcoming shows, I started to work on a new series of backgrounds.

I started to prepare for the upcoming Rideau Valley Art Festival in Wetsport, Ontario at the end of August. Here are some of the backgrounds I'm working on and from where (magazines) I got the inspiration for colour combinations.

I will be at the market this Saturday (June 2nd) showing my new artwork. I will bring some of my new felted stones (which can be used as pin-cushion or decoration).

Colour and background

After teaching the workshop on colours last week I had a burst of creative energy. I read "Brave Intuitive Painting" by Flora Bowley and I was really motivated to try new colour combinations. I decided to use some of my 8 x 8 canvases on which I had painted backgrounds a few years ago...

The chapter on colour is explained with simplicity which is great for beginners.
I decided to keep the book because it gave me inspirations and opened new doors for me.
