Art classes at the studio: Learning from the masters, Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Friedensreich  Hundertwasser (1928 – 2000) was an Austrian architect, painter, ecologist and visionary.  The first time I came across his artwork is when I saw a book about him by Harry Rand (Taschen publisher) at the National Art Gallery in Ottawa this summer. I was attracted by the vibrancy of his colour on the cover.

For this collage, students focused on common themes used in his work such as spiral, "lollipop" trees, drop of water shape.

Yesterday was the last Tuesday class before the Summer. The theme was "Under the sea". Jennifer, Hannah and Megan researched the subject in science books and looked at children books for inspiration.
