Colour and feeling

After seeing the beautiful work started by grades 4, 5 and 6 students on their textured background using glazing techniques, I changed a bit my plan for the lesson. I introduced them to the artwork of Mark Rothko with the help of a book from Prestel publisher titled “13 modern artists children should know “. They liked the idea of painting something non representative. We read also a wonderful book titled “My many colored days “by Dr. Seuss. Even though the book is aimed at a younger audience, it describes in a very lovely way how colours can communicate feelings and emotions.
