In 2003, we went to visit my brother Pierre in Mayotte, a French island in the Indian Ocean, not too far from Madagascar, near the Comoros Islands. He owns and manages “Le jardin Maoré”, a beautiful resort. The restaurant is surrounded by spectacular baobabs trees and is right on the beach. The fauna is amazing from marine turtles, to fruit bat, to colourful tropical fishes to dolphins... I tried scuba diving for the first time. My last dive was one of the most “breathtaking” experiences I ever had. I saw a small turtle by itself swimming. Its (her) shell looked like cooper and gold colours because the sun was shining on it. There was no fish, no plants just the white sand, the turquoise water and the rays of the sun. It made me think of a small leaf swayed by the wind in the fall, without knowing which way it goes. An incredible beautiful feeling. Back home I painted “Underwater” and “Moonlight Race”. I love the sea, the waves, the smells, the colours. I also enjoy painting sea creatures like whales “Shower for a mermaid”. “Noah’s ark” allowed me to paint many animals viewed from the sea.
