July art camp for children

This morning while I was working on a Peter Rabbit sketch for my upcoming July art camp for children on Beatrix Potter, I saw a rabbit in the garden. What are the chances of that?

Colour and feeling

After seeing the beautiful work started by grades 4, 5 and 6 students on their textured background using glazing techniques, I changed a bit my plan for the lesson. I introduced them to the artwork of Mark Rothko with the help of a book from Prestel publisher titled “13 modern artists children should know “. They liked the idea of painting something non representative. We read also a wonderful book titled “My many colored days “by Dr. Seuss. Even though the book is aimed at a younger audience, it describes in a very lovely way how colours can communicate feelings and emotions.

Mobiles

Last night, my Thursday class students finished their mobile inspired by Alexander Calder. Here are few of them hanging in the garden. The wind was quite strong and I was lucky enough, it wasn't raining when I took the pictures. Don’t you think they look fantastic?

Life drawing

One Sunday a month a group of artists meet in Buritts Rapids’ Community Center to draw life models. Life drawing is fairly new to me. Most of the people I drew were from photos during my fashion illustration classes back in 1982. This was the 3rd time I attended life drawing class and I love it. I stayed for the morning session. The time passed so fast! I forget everything around me when I draw!
Photos: Some of the sketches from the last 3 classes. 10 to 30 minutes per sketch.

Les insectes

Grade 1 and 2 painted paper with various hues of greens for the grass. They also used recycled wrapping paper, old maps and paper bags for the grass.

Grade 1: The large dragonfly was cut with the help of templates. The other insects were drawn and cut freehand by students.

Grade 2 made the body of the insect with air dry clay. They painted the wings on cardboard and glued them after sketching a design for the insect.
